Memphis Mission Testimonial

Hello, my name is Ava. I went on the mission trip to Memphis, and I think it was a great experience. I remember one night we were passing out water to homeless people, and offering to pray for them. One women was very passionate about praying. And after we prayed for her, she prayed us. I remembered she prayed how we should continue to care for our community and each other. She shook my hand while we prayed and said, “and I pray especially to this girl on my right”. All I could do was smile and nod. But I really appreciated how she was still thinking of other people, even though her life was hard. And I think we should all strive to be like that.

Overall, I think the trip was a very good experience. At first, I was cautious about going on the mission trip. It was not just because it was going to be a lot of work or I’d be away from my family. It was because it’d be hard to see poverty and people struggling and hurting. It made me feel like I didn’t have the right to be sad when there are people out there that have less than me. And that’s why I was really inspired when the women prayed for us too. It felt like she was seeing our struggles as well. We were there to provide comfort to her, but I ended up feeling comforted. Sometimes we all feel like the world’s problems are so big and dark, but when we are brave enough to reach out and help others, many times they reach back and the world becomes a brighter place.
